What is Lumio?

Lumio (formerly SMART Learning Suite Online) is a tool that teachers can use to create interactive digital lessons. Teachers can import their existing SMART notebook files, PDFs, PPTs, and even Google Slides to a Lumio presentation and then add activities for students to complete from their own device. There are also templates and ready-made lessons and activities you can add to a presentation.


Why use it?

Lumio is a great way to create teacher-led lessons where students see on their device the same slide you are presenting and view your writing in real time. You can see student work in real time if you create a "handout" activity and you can write on each of your students' handouts to provide praise or a prompt for revision. Lumio also allows you to formatively assess students during a lesson for intervention or enrichment purposes using selected response questions and game-based activities. Teachers also have the option of allowing students to complete at lesson at their own pace.

Tip: If you want to demonstrate an activity, insert that slide into your presentation twice - once to model the activity and once for independent work. After students complete their work you can return to the demonstration page to reteach any common errors you saw students make.  

How do I use it?

Go to https://www.smarttech.com/en/lumio and click on "Get started for free." Use your Shakopee Google Account to sign in. This will activate a trial for 45 days. If you would like to continue using it after 45 days, click here to submit a request as we have a limited number of licenses.

Share your lesson with students or colleagues

Share with students

  1. Find and start your lesson
  2. Click on the People icon in the top left, then the arrow.
  3. Ask students to open Safari and go to hellosmart.com
  4. K-2 students: Click on "Join as Guest," type in the class code, type in their name.
  5. 3-8 students: Sign-in with Google account and enter the class code.



Share with another teacher

  1. Find the lesson you want to share.
  2. Click on the 3 dots and choose "Share."
  3. Copy the teacher email link and email colleagues.
